The Ephemeral Museum of Fashion

Palazzo Pitti –  Museo della Moda

June 14 – October 22, 2017

The exhibition “the ephemeral museum of fashion” is being held at the Fashion Museum of Palazzo Pitti, in Florence. It’s an interesting project by Pitti Immagine Discovery, with the extraordinary participation of “Palais Galliera, the Musée de la Mode de la Ville de Paris.

An interesting journey of 200 pieces, including clothes and accessories, distributed in 18 rooms, which investigate the ephemeral sense of fashion and dress. A sense that however remains carved in memories, mixed with ironic amazement and melancholic regret, like the great loves.

From the mid-nineteenth century to the present days, we can admire dresses shown for the first time – never got out of storage boxes – and others exhibited for the last time, before returning to archives, because they are too fragile and delicate. That kind of miracle was possible thanks to the extraordinary work of the restorers of Galleria del Costume, and Palais Galliera.

The precious artifacts comes from the most prestigious maisons and ateliers in Florence, Rome, Milan, Paris, New York: Sartoria Worth, Mariano Fortuny Venice, Sartoria Rosa Genoni, Sartoria Emilio Federico Schubert, Roberto Capucci, Sartoria Madeleine Vionnet, Irene Galitzine Rome, Elsa Schiaparelli, Jole Veneziani, Biki, Rome’s high fashion Carosa, Nina Ricci, Gianfranco Ferré, Christian Lacroix until latest Gucci, Margiela, Bless, Fendi, Armani, Valentino, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, John Galliano and Lanvin.

Olivier Saillard, director of the Palais Galliera in Paris and curator of high profile exhibitions and events, did a precious job. With its acute and intelligent analysis, it leads the visitor along the theatrical and poetic route of the exhibition, which strikes with the refined elegance of stylistic choices and offers numberless reflections.
